Your First Botox Appointment: What to Expect

Getting Botox for the first time is a little nerve-wracking — not because it's dangerous, but because you don't know what to expect. This guide walks you through the entire experience at Rituel Med Spa, from the moment you walk in to what you should (and shouldn't) do after.

Before Your Appointment

What to Do

• Come with a clean face (no makeup on the treatment area is ideal, but not required)
• Take note of what bothers you — which lines, which expressions. Photos help
• Eat a normal meal beforehand (don't come on an empty stomach)

What to Avoid (7 Days Before)

• Blood thinners: Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), fish oil supplements — these increase bruising risk
• Alcohol: Avoid for 24–48 hours before (also a blood thinner)
• Vitamin E: High-dose supplements can increase bruising

Note: Don't stop any prescribed blood thinners without talking to your doctor. Let your injector know about any medications you take.

At the Appointment: Step by Step

Step 1: Consultation (10 Minutes)

Your injector will ask about your goals, medical history, allergies, and any medications. They'll examine your facial muscles — asking you to frown, raise your eyebrows, and squint — to see how your muscles move and where treatment would be most effective.

This is your chance to ask questions, express concerns, and talk about the look you want. "Natural" means different things to different people — be specific. Show photos if that helps.

Step 2: Treatment Plan & Pricing

Before any needle touches your face, your injector will tell you exactly:

• Which areas they recommend treating
• How many units per area
• Total cost (no surprises at checkout)

For first-timers, most injectors recommend starting conservative — you can always add more at your 2-week follow-up, but you can't take away.

Step 3: The Injection (10–15 Minutes)

The injection itself is quick. Here's what it feels like:

• The needles are tiny — 30-gauge, much smaller than a blood draw needle
• Each injection feels like a quick pinch that lasts about 1 second
• Most treatment areas require 3–6 injection points
• Some areas (like crow's feet) feel like almost nothing; others (between the eyebrows) have a brief sting
• If you're nervous, we can apply numbing cream 15 minutes before — just let us know when you book

Step 4: You're Done

That's it. No bandages, no downtime. You'll have small bumps at the injection sites that disappear within 15–30 minutes. You might have a tiny amount of redness. Most people go right back to work.

After Your Appointment

The First 4 Hours

• Don't lie down — stay upright to prevent migration
• Don't rub or massage the treated areas
• Don't exercise — wait at least 4 hours (24 hours is ideal)
• Don't apply makeup to the treated area

The First 24 Hours

• Avoid hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms
• Skip alcohol (increases bruising risk)
• Don't wear tight headbands or hats that press on your forehead
• Sleep on your back if possible

Days 1–14: The Timeline

• Day 1–2: You probably won't notice much change yet
• Day 3–5: Muscles start to relax. You'll notice it's harder to make the expressions that create your lines
• Day 7–10: Significant improvement visible
• Day 14: Full results. This is when your injector does a follow-up assessment
