Stretch Mark Rejuvenation in Phoenix: RF Microneedling + PRP Explained
September 2026
Stretch marks are one of the most common skin concerns we hear about at Rituel — and one of the most misunderstood. Whether they showed up during pregnancy, a growth spurt, weight loss, or muscle gain, stretch marks (striae) form when the skin stretches faster than collagen and elastin can keep up, tearing the dermis at a microscopic level. The good news: modern stretch mark rejuvenation treatments can meaningfully improve their texture, color, and depth — without surgery or extended downtime.
At our Phoenix med spa, the two treatments we reach for most often are RF microneedling and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, sometimes combined for a compounding effect. Here's how each one works, what results actually look like, and how to know which approach fits your skin.
Why Stretch Marks Are So Hard to "Just Moisturize Away"
Stretch marks aren't a surface problem, so surface products have limited reach. They begin as striae rubra — reddish or purple marks that reflect active inflammation and blood vessel visibility — and mature into striae alba: pale, silvery, slightly indented lines where collagen has thinned and the skin's normal texture has been disrupted. Creams and oils can hydrate the outer layer, but they can't rebuild the collagen architecture underneath. That's the job of treatments that work at the dermal level, which is exactly what RF microneedling and PRP are designed to do.
RF Microneedling: Rebuilding Collagen From Within
Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling pairs traditional microneedling — fine needles creating controlled micro-injuries — with radiofrequency energy delivered directly into the dermis. This combination does two things at once:
- Mechanical stimulation from the needles triggers your body's wound-healing response, prompting new collagen and elastin production.
- Thermal energy from the RF component heats the deeper dermis, tightening existing collagen fibers and encouraging remodeling of scarred or indented tissue — which is exactly the structure stretch marks damage.
Because the RF energy can be adjusted for depth, this treatment works well on both fresh, reddish stretch marks and older, silvery ones, and it's effective on stomachs, thighs, hips, and upper arms — the areas we see most often for this concern.
What to Expect
Most clients describe mild heat and pressure during the session, and see redness (similar to a light sunburn) for 24–72 hours after. A series of 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typical, since collagen remodeling happens gradually over months, not days. Visible improvement in texture and tone usually begins around the second or third session, with continued improvement for up to 6 months after the final treatment as collagen keeps maturing.
PRP Therapy: Using Your Own Growth Factors
PRP is created by drawing a small sample of your own blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and reintroducing that platelet-rich plasma into the treatment area. Platelets are loaded with growth factors that accelerate tissue repair and signal your body to generate new collagen, elastin, and even improve local blood flow — all of which directly counter the structural damage stretch marks leave behind.
PRP is most powerful when it isn't used alone. When it's applied topically and massaged into the skin immediately after microneedling, the growth factors are delivered directly into the fresh micro-channels created by the needles — reaching the depth where stretch mark remodeling actually needs to happen. This combination approach is one of the most effective non-surgical options available for stretch mark improvement.
Why Combine RF Microneedling + PRP?
| Treatment | Primary Mechanism | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| RF Microneedling alone | Controlled injury + heat for collagen remodeling | Textural improvement, tightening |
| PRP alone | Growth-factor signaling for tissue repair | Accelerating healing, subtle tone improvement |
| RF Microneedling + PRP | Mechanical + thermal + biological stimulation | Deeper, more established stretch marks; faster visible change |
Combining the two doesn't just add benefits — it compounds them, since the growth factors in PRP accelerate and enhance the healing process the microneedling has already initiated.
Setting Realistic Expectations
No non-surgical treatment erases stretch marks completely — be wary of anyone who promises that. What RF microneedling and PRP do reliably deliver is a meaningful reduction in the depth, width, and visibility of stretch marks, along with a smoother overall skin texture. Newer, reddish stretch marks generally respond faster and more dramatically than mature, silvery ones, which is one reason we always recommend starting treatment as early as possible after marks appear — though older stretch marks absolutely still see improvement with a full treatment series.
Who's a Good Candidate?
- Postpartum clients with abdominal or hip stretch marks from pregnancy
- Anyone with stretch marks from rapid weight change, including clients on a medical weight loss program
- Teens and adults with growth-spurt-related stretch marks on thighs or upper arms
- Clients who've tried topical creams and oils without seeing meaningful change
If you're currently pregnant or breastfeeding, we'll recommend waiting until postpartum to begin treatment. During your consultation, our team will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and build a treatment plan — often layering in complementary services like our microneedling treatments or a broader skincare plan depending on what else is going on with your skin.
What Aftercare Looks Like
Aftercare is straightforward: gentle cleansing, no active exfoliants (retinol, AHAs/BHAs) for about a week, diligent SPF on treated areas once healed, and staying hydrated to support the tissue repair process. We'll walk you through a personalized aftercare plan at checkout so you know exactly what to do — and what to avoid — in the days following each session.
